Educator Preparation and Development

This area of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology is important for many reasons. It provides feedback for administrators on how teachers feel about the professional development they receive in the areas of technology. The Campus Statewide Summary suggest that 74.2 percent of teachers fall in the developing tech range of the levels of progress. The teachers on my campus fall into this range also. This suggest that the teacher use of classroom technology is for administrative task, such as taking roll, using grade book, and using school email. Only 40 percent of teachers meet SBEC standards and more professional development in this area is needed. As administrators we must make sure that our teachers are proficient in technology. Teachers must allow technology to become a tool that drives instruction, not just a means for taking roll and entering grades. My school received a grant that allowed us to buy laptops for every employee in the district. Each teacher was issued an elmo and projector for this school year. Many of our teachers are using this new technology to increase productivity in the classroom. We offered training to our teachers before the start of the school year and this professional development has been a success. We purchased star boards or eno boards for our math and science teachers to use on top of the previous mentioned technology. We also provided professional development training for these teachers and they continue to use the tool and become more proficient daily. I feel that our scores in this are of the STAR chart will rise and teachers will become better with technology.
